Around SBN: The Eternal Unpredictability of the 2011-12 Boston Celtics

Bullis Hoops 67 Landon 63

On a night when six playing seniors, two 2012 members who have contributed to the Bears’ seasons and their families, there were some memorable moments, much excitement and sadly a disappointing end (not all that disappointing considering that the Bulldogs hold the #5 WaPo poll and at Potomac, the margin of victory was 11 and tonight reduced to 4 points). Let’s start at the top of the evening.

Star-divide

With the Fox 5 “Game of the Week” camera in attendance, because almost 1,300 votes were cast by Bears and their fans in support of the sports coverage of the game, and with a student section all clad in orange and reminiscent of the Cameron Crazies, the PA announcer called each senior up to give his Mom a bouquet and greet present Dads. The Class of 2012 hoopsters included (in alphabetical order):

Player Family

Nathan Bubes Nancy & Alan

Hank Brown Monica & Tony

Cyrus House Jenny & Terrence

Max Kra Chris & Howard

Rob Leachman Margie & Scott

Joe McDonald Gabi

Addison Sarter Celia & Rick

Deion Wellington Dawn & Jalahn

These Bears and their parents have contributed much to Landon basketball and to the school’s overall excellence (other sports, music, arts, academics and student body leadership). This is an exceptional band of Bears and will be remembered for many years.

Adding to the memories, all of these players spent many minutes on the court, all scored and many had rebounds/assists/steals.

Fired up by the atmosphere, the home team took a lead after 2 minutes and ended the period with an eight point advantage. Deion Wellington hit the Bears first bucket and soon thereafter with another. Max Kra, who has been injured most of the season, had a nice deuce. Joe McDonald registered 8 points in the 1st 8 minutes. Cyrus House showed some nice range and Soph Isaiah Colclough broke the senior exclusivity with his basket.

END OF 1ST Q BEARS 18 BULLDOGS 10

Addison Sarter added an exclamation point by dunking for the Bears’ first points of the next period. Joe and Deion had early additions to the home team score. Reminiscent of his key shot in the RP game, Hank Brown nailed a three pointer to stem a Bulldog charge. Tumi Onaghise, Isaiah and Joe added points before half.

HALFTIME BEARS 33 BULLDOGS 27

The 3rd Q was a battle with the score being tied three times and the Bears retaining a one point lead. Nigel Pruitt (25 points) displayed some offensive talents with 7 points over this eight minutes segment. Joe responded with another 8 points in the same time; Sebastian Wells added a bucket and several rebounds. Three other Bears put points in the book.

END OF 3RD Q BEARS 47 BULLDOGS 46

The Bulldogs reversed this one point deficit by scoring eight points versus Deion’s single bucket in the first two minutes B54 L 49. Buckets by Isaiah, Addison and Deion plus FTs by Joe narrowed the difference to B62 L60 @ 1:12. Hank hit a second long distance three, but the remainder of the game was spent as the Bullis players hit 5 consecutive free throws.
